Participating inthe filming ofaseries ormovie ishard work since celebrities have toget into the skin oftheir characters toachieve anauthentic interpretation. But that doesn’t mean that actors don’t have real lives behind the scenes. Sometimes, actresses decide tobecome mothers and already have contracts with production companies. This presents achallenge for them, because oftheir pregnancy, and for the filmmakers who have todecide whether toincorporate the belly into the plot orsimply let the actress cover her belly.
Bright Side made alist of11celebrities who played during pregnancy (some ofthem had tohide their belly) and isrevealing what these kids that made things complicated for their mothers and producers look like today.
1. Julia Louis-Dreyfus inSeinfeld
During the shooting ofthe third season ofthe popular sitcom, Seinfeld, Julia Louis-Dreyfus became pregnant with her first child, Henry Hall. Baby Henry was born inJuly of1992. However, the actress’s pregnancy was never really aproblem for the producers ofthe series. The simple solution writers came upwith was toput her character, Elaine, inbaggy clothes and any large garments tohide her belly. Henry iscurrently 29years old.
2. Claire Danes inHomeland
You probably know actress Claire Danes because ofthe amazing performance she delivered asthe CIA agent, Carrie Mathison, inthe television series, Homeland. However, what’s not often talked about isthe fact that she was 8months pregnant when she completed the filming ofthe second season. Her pregnancy could not beintroduced inthe plot due toher character, sothey decided touse digital retouching tohide her belly. Her son, Cyrus, was born inDecember 2012, and he’s now 9years old.
3. Ellen Pompeo inGrey’s Anatomy
During the filming ofthe sixth season ofone ofthe most popular drama series ever created, Grey’s Anatomy, producers decided tohide Ellen Pompeo’s pregnancy from the cameras. This was done because, for the writers, this was not the right time for her character, Dr. Meredith, tohave ababy, and they wanted tokeep that for alater moment. InSeptember 2009, Stella Luna, now 12years old, was born.
4. Zooey Deschanel inNew Girl
Zooey Deschanel was 7months pregnant when season 5ofthe hit series, New Girl, was shot. Asyou probably remember, the actress had tobemomentarily replaced byMegan Fox since producers were only able tohide her belly for nomore than afew episodes. Deschanel also had tostay off the series until she returned from postpartum rest. Zooey gave birth toher daughter, Elsie, inAugust 2015, and today the little girl is5years old.
5. Holly Marie Combs inCharmed
Holly Marie Combs, who plays Piper, one ofthe main characters ofthe series, Charmed, announced during the shooting ofthe sixth season that she was pregnant. The producers thought itwas better tohide her pregnancy atfirst. However, after awhile, they decided that itwas better for her character toactually have achild inthe story aswell. Apparently, Piper’s pregnancy was planned before the actress knew she was expecting ababy, sothat came inhandy. Combs gave birth toher first child, Finley Arthur, in2004, and he’s now 17years old.
6. Amaia Salamanca inVelvet
Amaia Salamanca’s pregnancy was well-planned when she rejoined the set ofVelvet, ashow about the compelling Spanish story ofafashion house inMadrid inthe late ’50s. Because ofthis, production had nochoice but tomake Barbara, her character, pregnant aswell. Atthe age of28, she gave birth toher first child, agirl named Olivia Varo, inApril 2014.
7. Kerry Washington inScandal
Kerry Washington’s pregnancy happened right inthe middle ofthe shooting ofthe series, Scandal, inwhich she played the main character. This unforeseen event forced producers toreduce the number ofepisodes tohide the actress’s pregnancy that couldn’t fit the schedule ofthe series. Currently, her daughter, Isabelle, is7years old.
8. Kristen Bell inHouse ofLies
The star ofthe House ofLies TVseries, Kristen Bell, was about 6months pregnant with her first daughter when the second season ofthe show was about tobeshot. Inorder toactually film some episodes, the producers had tohire abody double for the scenes inwhich Bell would have had toshow her belly. Her first daughter, Lincoln Bell, isnow 8years old.
9. Cobie Smulders inHow IMet Your Mother
Actress Cobie Smulders brought her character, Robin, tomillions ofsmall screens thanks tothe sitcom, How IMet Your Mother. After fellow actress Alyson Hannigan told the show-runners that she was pregnant, Cobie Smulders discovered that she was also pregnant and told the producers who had tocamouflage both oftheir pregnancies. Todisguise Smulders’ belly, producers asked the costume designers touse garments and objects that could hide her abdomen, and they had the character remain seated for most ofthe scenes that she appearedin. InMay 2009, the actress gave birth toher daughter, Shaelyn.
