At Sleep Advisor, our mattress reviews are based on findings from in-person tests that allow us to have a genuine understanding of how the mattress feels and performs.

I tested the Nectar in various sleeping positions to evaluate how it performs for different sleep styles. I also assessed how well the Nectar held up for specific preference-based categories like edge support, motion isolation, cooling, support, bounce, and pressure relief. Performing these various tests helped me rate the bed accordingly.

Firmness

TheSimmonsHybridFirm Mattressis, unsurprisingly, firm. It comes in at a firmness level of about 7.5 on our firmness scale. For reference, most mattresses we test aremedium-firmand have a firmness score of around 6.

Will the Simmons Hybrid Accommodate Your Sleeping Position?

Because theSimmonsHybrid performed so poorly in ourPressure Relieftest, we cannot recommend it forside sleepers, who should generally look for something that ismedium-firm.

Back

Someback sleepersmay enjoy the firmness of theSimmonsHybrid, which scored higher inpressure reliefwhen on our backs than when on our sides. Still, you may prefer something a touch softer.

Stomach

Stomach sleepersneed a fairly high level of firmness in their mattress so that their hips don’t sink too far in. TheSimmonsHybrid will definitely keep your hips propped up, but again, some may find the firmness too extreme, especially against the soft area of their stomach.

Combination

Combination sleepers will definitely find a lot to love in theSimmonsHybrid. The springiness and high responsiveness all unrestricted movement; tossing, turning, and bouncing around is not a problem on this mattress.

Pressure Relief

Sensitivepressure pointslike shoulders and hips require a very particularsupport system. The mattress needs to be soft enough that these heavier areas can sink in, but they can’t sink in so much that the spine gets thrown out of alignment.

heSimmonsHybrid, having a firmness level of 7.5, did not allow our shoulders and hips to sink in at all. As you can see on the pressure map below, these areas are under a considerable amount of stress when on this bed, which can result in soreness after prolonged periods of usage.

Motion Transfer

Are you often woken up by the movements of your sleep partner? That could be because your mattress does notisolate motionwell. A bed that scores highly in themotion transfertest absorbs movement so that it does not travel across the surface area.

In the case of theSimmonsHybrid, we found that a partner getting in and out of bed did somewhat disturb our sleep, but a partner tossing and turning did not bother us. Check out ourmotion transferwine test to see how well theSimmons mattressisolates motion.

Cooling

The lack of thick, insulating foam in theSimmonsmakes it easy for heat to move from your body into the mattress and back out. This makes for a cool nights sleep and will satisfy most sleepers prone to overheating.

One of the most appealing things abouthybrid mattressesis their ability to circulate air, thus keeping themselves cooler thanmemory foam mattresses. Many hybrids integrate things like cooling beads and graphite infused so-and-so’s to achieve an even more active temperature regulating effect. TheSimmonsHybrid does not have anything like that, but it doesn’t need it.

Since theSimmonsis relatively thin and does not pad the springs with thick foam, air flow goes unimpeded. The heat that transfers from your body to the mattress would ordinarily get trapped in the foam, but in theSimmonsthe coils just circulate it back out.

How Much Weight Does theSimmonsHybrid MattressSupport?

TheSimmonsHybrid has no weight limit. If you have a heavier body type, though, you may find that the 8” thickness does not provide a comfortable level of support.

What Foundations orBed FramesCan be Used withSimmonsHybrid?

If you are using a platform withslatsthen there are some parameters that must be met. If thesupport systemyou intend to use hasslatsthat are less than 2” apart then there must be a center support that runs along the system lengthwise, with one leg in the center of the frame.

If the system’sslatsare more than 2” apart then you need to place a rigid surface between the mattress and theslats, and there also needs to be a leg in the center of the frame.

TheSimmonsHybrid can be used on any foundation orbox spring.Adjustable basesare also okay, but you must consult the owner’s manual for proper instruction.
