AAU Spring Tournaments: April Standouts - Prep Hoops (2024)

Joey Mclaurin was on fire at iS8 in his second game of the day. Mclaurin was excellent on catch and shoot attempts. Utilizing his quick release to get his shot over closing defenders. When Mclaurin was successfully run off the line, he showed the skills to get to open space for a shot. At iS8 Mclaurin looked unselfish and team oriented, on both offense and defense. After an undefeated high school regular season, Mclaurin is continuing his shooting prowess and is worth a closer look.

JJ Rembert is a quick and strong guard who keeps his head on a swivel looking to make a play. At iS8 Rembert, used his clever quickness to get into the lane. Because of his strength, Rembert was able to convert tough layups through contact on a few occasions. As a lead guard, Rembert is looking to push the pace and get his team into offense quickly. And looked for the hot hand time and time again at iS8. Rembert is known to Prep hoops readers in South Carolina. After his senior season at The Patrick School in New Jersey, Rembert is unsigned and standing out on the AAU circuit.

Matthew Santiago is an extremely shifty guard, with a shooters touch from anywhere on the floor. We have seen Santiago in a number of middle school AAU tournaments and at iS8, Santiago shined against high school competition. As a spot-up shooter, Santiago is knockdown from long range. But Santiago showed how special he can be off the dribble as an incoming Freshman. Getting to any spot he wanted on the floor with his shifty handle.

Shane Lopez held his own and then some against high school competition at iS8. Next season, Lopez will be a freshman at Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx. And Lopez, showed he has the skills to run with a group of elite high school talent. As a ball handler, Lopez is quick and crafty. But the way he uses these tools to set up open teammates is something to keep an eye on moving forward. Lopez, playing with senior guards and forwards, was able to get the ball to teammates where they were most effective. And understands when the onus is on him to get a basket.

Alhasan Jallow impressed us with his increased ball handling skills at iS8. At 6’8″ Jallow already had the long arms and frame to play at the next level. This Spring, Jallow is creating his own shot off the dribble. And knocking them down as consistently as his catch-and-shoot attempts. It did not matter if a strong or athletic big guarded Jallow. Every time, he sized up his defender Jallow was able to break them down to get the shot he wanted. Unsigned as of now, Jallow is considering a prep school year and should be closely monitored.
